Terms of Service
Effective July 13, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and LanternPet LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("LanternPet", "we", "us"), and govern your use of the LanternPet mobile application and related services ("the Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. LanternPet is not veterinary care
LanternPet provides AI-assisted, informational guidance about how urgently your pet may need veterinary attention. It is not a veterinarian, does not practice veterinary medicine, does not provide veterinary services, does not diagnose conditions, does not recommend treatments or medication doses, and does not replace the judgment of a licensed veterinarian. Use of the Service does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. You remain solely responsible for all decisions regarding the care, treatment, medication, and monitoring of your animals. If you believe your pet is experiencing an emergency, contact a veterinarian or emergency animal hospital immediately — do not wait for, or rely on, the app's assessment.
Seek immediate in-person veterinary care — rather than using the Service — for situations including (but not limited to): difficulty breathing (including any open-mouth breathing in a cat); collapse, inability to stand, or sudden paralysis; loss of consciousness; seizures; bleeding that won't stop; known or suspected poisoning; significant physical trauma (hit by a vehicle, a serious fall, puncture wounds); a swollen, hard abdomen with unproductive retching (possible bloat); a male cat straining to urinate without producing urine; eye injury or sudden vision loss; pale, white, blue, or grey gums; any symptom in an animal under 8 weeks old; or body temperature above 104.9°F (40.5°C) or below 98.6°F (37°C), including signs of heat stroke.
"Talk to a vet" links in the app point to independent third-party telehealth providers that we do not operate or control; any care you receive through them is between you and that provider.
2. AI-generated guidance and its limits
Assessments are generated by an artificial-intelligence system that evaluates the description you provide contextually and holistically, as written language — the Service does not compute diagnostic scores, assign numeric weights to symptoms, or run rule-based scoring calculations. Artificial intelligence may produce inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate responses, and the Service cannot physically examine your pet. Responses depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide. Reasonable veterinarians may reach different conclusions from the same information. Urgency guidance is deliberately conservative, but no output from the Service is a medical conclusion, and it should be confirmed with a licensed veterinarian before making decisions about your pet's care.
3. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and purchase a subscription. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your login credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information about your pet — assessments are only as good as the information they are based on.
4. Subscriptions and billing
- The free plan includes 1 pet profile and 3 symptom checks per calendar month.
- Paid plans (Individual and Family) are billed monthly or yearly, in advance, and renew automatically until cancelled.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings → Manage Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep paid features until then. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods, except where required by law.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your card number.
- If a renewal payment fails, we retry it and notify you. If payment cannot be collected, your account reverts to the free plan; your data is not deleted.
- We may change plan prices with at least 30 days' advance notice. Price changes apply from your next renewal.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of the information you submit — pet profiles, symptom descriptions, photos, and health records. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the Service: to store your content, process it (including through the third-party AI and infrastructure providers described in our Privacy Policy), and display it back to you. We keep a complete record of every symptom-check interaction, including your input and the generated assessment, for safety, quality, and legal purposes.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the Service for any animal you do not own or care for without authorization; attempt to access other users' data; probe, disrupt, or overload the Service; reverse-engineer the app; use the Service to develop a competing product; or submit content that is unlawful or infringes others' rights. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Intellectual property
The Service — including its software, design, and content other than yours — is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ASSESSMENTS WILL BE CORRECT, THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT IT IS APPROPRIATE FOR ANY PARTICULAR ANIMAL OR SITUATION.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, LOSS OF BUSINESS, LOST PROFITS, OR LOSS OF DATA — OR FOR ANY LOSS OR HARM TO ANY ANIMAL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR US$50 IF YOU PAID NOTHING. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
11. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which permanently removes your account and data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate the Service or your account for violation of these Terms, with notice where practicable.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions about these Terms: support@lanternpet.com.
